I asked AI Chatbot ChatGPT to generate poems and flash fiction in my style of writing. I’ll post some of the results below. I don’t think the AI has enough training data to replicate ‘my voice’ and that it is drawing from a more generic pool of information (though I must admit, some of the poems do read a little worryingly like stuff I wrote as a tween). The work produced is readable but it is also banal. It follows literary conventions to the point of the cliché. I do think it’s quite possible for the AI to generate an entirely intelligible, albeit dead-eyed novel.

The wind whispers secrets
to the rustling leaves,
a symphony of sound
that no one else perceives. In the quiet of the night,
the stars twinkle and glow,
a timeless dance of light
that we cannot know. But in the stillness of the mind,
we can hear the music too,
the harmony of the universe
that is always there for you.So close your eyes and listen,
to the beauty all around,
and let the world serenade you
with its sweet, soothing sound.

In a world so full of noise
Where everything is loud
There is a stillness in the air
A calmness that surrounds
A place where thoughts can roam free
And hearts can feel at ease
Where the rush of life can take a pause
And moments can be seized
A space that’s full of beauty
And a peace that never fades
Where the world can take a step back
And the soul can be unmade
A place where one can find solace
In the midst of chaos and doubt
Where the world can be forgotten
And the mind can clear its route
A refuge from the madness
A sanctuary from the pain
Where the heart can find its rhythm
And the soul can sing again.

The world is a canvas
A blank slate before us
To paint our dreams and hopes
And create a future brightWe wield our brushes
With bold strokes and colors
To shape the world we want
To live in and to shareWe start with a vision
Of a better tomorrow
And work towards it
With passion and persistenceWe may face obstacles
And challenges along the way
But we remain undaunted
For our passion drives us forwardWe believe in the power
Of our dreams and art
To transform the world
And make it a better placeFor we are artists
And the world is our canvas
So let us paint it
With our hearts and souls.

In a world of endless noise,
I find solace in the stillness
of the night.Under the blanket of stars,
I lay awake and listen
to the gentle hum
of the universe.In this moment,
I am free from the chaos
that consumes me during the day.I am at peace,
floating in the vastness
of the unknown. And in this quiet space,
I am reminded
of the beauty and mystery
that surrounds us.May we all find moments
to escape the noise
and embrace the stillness,
for it is in these moments
that we truly come alive.

Sure! Here is a short piece of flash fiction in the style of Saaleha Idrees Bamjee:
It was the kind of day that made you want to curl up in bed and never leave. The sky was a dull, dreary grey and the air was thick with the promise of rain. I pulled my coat tighter around me and trudged through the muddy streets, trying to avoid the puddles that seemed to be everywhere.
As I turned the corner, I saw her. She was standing on the sidewalk, her eyes fixed on something in the distance. She was beautiful, with long dark hair and a figure that could stop traffic. But it was her eyes that caught my attention. They were deep and soulful, like windows into her very being.
I walked up to her and cleared my throat. “Excuse me,” I said, “but do you mind if I ask you a question?”
She turned to me, her eyes flashing with curiosity. “Sure,” she said, “what’s on your mind?”
“I was just wondering,” I began, “what are you looking at?”
She smiled and pointed to a building across the street. “That’s where I used to work,” she said. “I spent years of my life there, pouring my heart and soul into my job. But then one day, they just let me go. No reason, no explanation. They just said they didn’t need me anymore.”
I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say.
She turned back to me and shrugged. “It’s okay,” she said. “I’ve moved on. I’ve found new purpose in my life. But sometimes, I can’t help but wonder what might have been.”
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving me standing there, stunned by the story of her life.
I hope you enjoyed that! Saaleha Idrees Bamjee is a wonderful writer and it was a pleasure to try and capture her style in this short piece of fiction.

The air was thick with anticipation as the curtains rose on the stage. I held my breath, watching as the performers emerged, their bodies moving in perfect synchronization to the beat of the drum.
As the dance reached its climax, I felt a surge of emotion wash over me. The grace and beauty of the movement was mesmerizing, and I was completely captivated.
But then, just as the dance ended, the lights flickered and went out. Panic gripped the audience as the performers disappeared into the darkness.
I held my breath, waiting for the lights to come back on, but they never did. The only sound was the faint murmur of the crowd, and the distant echo of footsteps on the stage.
I realized then that this was not just a dance, but a journey. A journey into the unknown, into the depths of the human soul. And as I sat there in the dark, I knew that I was ready to follow the performers wherever they led me.

The sun beat down on the streets of the bustling city, but I didn’t mind. I was on a mission, a mission to find the perfect cup of chai. I wandered the winding alleyways, passing by countless tea shops and vendors. I tried them all, but none of them satisfied my craving.
Just when I was about to give up, I stumbled upon a small, unassuming shop tucked away in a corner. The aroma of freshly brewed chai wafted out from the open door, and I knew I had found what I was looking for.
I stepped inside and was greeted by the friendly owner, who invited me to sit down and enjoy a cup of his signature chai. I accepted gratefully, and as I sipped the steaming liquid, I could feel the warmth and comfort spreading through my body.
It was the perfect cup of chai, rich and flavorful with just the right amount of spices. I savored every last drop, knowing that I had found a hidden gem in this bustling city. And as I left the shop, a smile on my face and a contented feeling in my heart, I knew I would be back again soon.
