You can rewrite your script at any time but there’s just something about new years and Mondays that import impetus and gravitas to reinventions.
I have just a few resolutions this year;
- To drop the kilogram-equivalent of a small child.
- To respect food.
- To focus on writing and photography.
- To start my day earlier.
I’ve been accepted into Rhodes University’s part-time MA Creative Writing programme. Over the next two years I will have flare guns directed at my reluctant-writer ass by course deadlines and supervisors.
While I’ve always considered my greatest strength to be the ability to fit into whatever skin is demanded of me, my scattered focus has been to my detriment.
My energies have been stretched across too many frames. I’ve not been writing as I should and I am bereft.
I’ve decided to downscale my freelance work to include only existing copywriting/web management obligations, the ShootCake project and the occasional social media workshop facilitation I do for frayintermedia.
I know this MA will only be as good as the hard work I put into it, but it does offer me a tangible creative process and an end in sight.
I’m hopeful.
Thanks guys, after my first week, I am feeling up to the challenge.
Salz .All the best
Do not forget that we have a deal
I get the first autographed copy!
You’re a ‘doer’, so I don’t know what this supposed scattered focus thing is all about 😉
I hope your dreams for your MA come true and I really hope to see the words ‘Saaleha Idrees Bamjee’ on the spine of a book in Exclusive Books soon inshAllah 🙂
i would never underestimate your, “scattered focus”, because i have read some of your profoundness thoughts, and they are delicious thoughts – so best of luck in your creative writing education, but what ever you learn, never never never forget there is only one of you in the whole universe – and i find you writing very enlightening.
from one lover of words to another, there are a billion stories in your scattered focus, just waiting to flow from the mouths of characters you have already imagine years ago. i remember seeing a photo of a youthful young lady sitting at a desk, i think she was seven years old?
Happy New Year and may your future education fill your thoughts with explosions of old and new expectations – sharpen your pencils!
my warmest regards to you and to your husband

Saal my dear, a very happy filled 2012 to you. I am SO GLAD you doing that MA – the world needs your words! And I am dead serious about that.
Email me details about the application process please. Is it through correspondence only? I am quite keen to get into it too, but need to get a few life aspects sorted first.
Hope we can meet and have some coffee soon.
much love…
Congratulations – and i hope it’ll bring out the best of that writer in you which, it seems, has been hiding for too long. (If this blog alone is something to judge by…I do hope this means that we’ll see more writing on this blog again.)
How’s the book coming along?
Salaams Saaleha, hope you are well. Best of Luck with your endeavors’.
Have a few things that I would like to see bear fruit:
*definitely loose some kg’s
*eat healthier
